A leftover stump is more than an eyesore. It sprouts suckers, draws in pests and fungi, trips people and gets in the way of mowing, planting or building. Grinding it out solves all of that in a single visit.
We grind the stump — and the major surface roots — several inches below grade with a purpose-built machine. You’re left with a bed of fine chips you can rake flat, backfill and turf or plant over.

Stump grinding is usually priced by diameter (measured across at ground level), often around $3–$5 per inch, with a small minimum. Typical single-stump jobs land here.

What’s the difference between stump removal and grinding?
Grinding chews the stump into chips below ground level — fast, tidy and cost-effective. Full extraction pulls the whole root ball out, which is far more disruptive and expensive. Grinding is right for almost every yard.
How deep do you grind?
Typically 4–8 inches below grade — deeper if you plan to replant or lay turf. Just tell us the plan and we’ll grind to suit.
What happens to the wood chips?
By default we rake them back to fill the hole (they settle over time). If you’d rather, we can haul them away and top the spot with soil for a small extra.
Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?
Best to plant a foot or two to the side, or have us remove the grindings and backfill with fresh soil first, as leftover chips tie up nitrogen as they break down.
Will grinding damage my lawn?
No — we protect the access route and the area around the stump, and clean up fully. Any small track marks recover quickly.
